![]() An entire forest in your backyard? Like carving your name and net worth on the Moon. A bonsai tree on your balcony is like a luxurious watch on your wrist today: an attempt to subtly let everyone know you're rich. Nothing grows unless you shower it with eurodollars. This sub-district includes the next fast travel points: North Oak is the city's very own Elysium and every Night Citizen's dream neighborhood. All of North Oak is dotted with spacious villas featuring their own microclimates and manicured lawns. Today North Oak houses the city's wealthiest elite: corpo execs, venture capitalists, actors, musicians living next door to their producers and rock stars such as Kerry Eurodyne. Finally, in the 50s, the Night City council - sponsored by corporations - decided to do some spring cleaning, officially waging a "War against crime." The North Oak slum was forcefully evacuated and bulldozed, only to boast the city's priciest real estate soon after. Over the next few years, the hill became something of an independent district - its poverty and duct-taped houses a grim reminder of the past. ![]() After the nuclear bomb went off at Arasaka Tower, almost eight thousand desperate Night Citizens moved to higher ground, putting up corrugated tin roofs and รก la shantytown. It's hard to believe, but fifty years ago this was just a rocky hill hemming the city in from the northeast. Freedom from poverty and gangs - now that's what you call luxury. North Oak is the newest district in Night City. Every Night City citizen dreams of living here. Both the Arasaka Estate and Kerry Eurodyne's villa are within North Oak, because here it doesn't matter whether you're a corporate owner or a renegade rockerboy, the only thing that matters is how wealthy you are. The area consists of vast estates, some of them with their own micro-biome and artificially created landscape. I had to rent an aerial vehicle just to catch a glimpse of the famous district. Most people are not welcomed here, and private security is tight. These days that history is all but forgotten, and North Oak is home to the untouchable elite: corporate CEOs, hedge fund managers, and investment bankers, but also to the various showbiz figures: BD producers and stars, media personalities and musicians. Many rich people were initially reluctant to buy land where some dirty homeless folk had once lived. Years of the ongoing corporate-media campaign eventually watered down and finally hushed the whole incident, not only to avoid negative PR, but to raise land value. The North Oak favelas were pacified and razed by corporate developers, and in a few years the area became the most prized part of Night City. Proclaimed as a "war against crime" by the corporate-owned media, this action became a synonym of corporate brutality and prejudice. This situation persisted until the early 2050s, when the NC government, backed by the megacorporations, decided to clear the area by force. After the Nuke Incident and the destruction of the Arasaka Towers complex it became the site of temporary refugee camps and favelas for the next 25 years. More than 50 years ago, there was nothing here than arid hills framing the north-eastern border of Night City. It's the exclusive residential district, free from the poverty and gangs that plague the city.
